Here are our Terms & Conditions for renting and purchasing as well as repair and replacement coverage, exchanges, returns, refunds and more.

Discount Purchase Plan with Return Option:
Also, End-of-School-Year or End-of-Semester “Option 1” and “Option 2”

By choosing Star City Music’s Purchase Plan with Return Option, you have received a discounted price. You may exercise the option to return the instrument at any time as long as all parts and related accessories that were issued with the instrument are returned with the instrument and it is in proper working order with no excessive wear or damage due to neglect, abuse, or lack of proper care. Any repair charges due or replacement of any parts are your sole responsibility. Case disfigurement: any case that is returned marked with ink, paint or any other markings that punitively mars the case are your sole responsibility. The replacement cost of a new case of the same brand and style will be charged to you upon it return. To return this instrument, you must first contact Star City Music and receive a Return Authorization Number. After receiving a Return Authorization number, you have seven (7) days to return the instrument to the store in person or by package courier (such as UPS) with a signature required as proof of delivery. It is recommended that you insure the instrument during shipping — you are responsible for loss or damage during return shipping. Clearly mark your Return Authorization Number on the package and on paper affixed to the instrument case, and ship to: Returns, Star City Music, 2030 East Main Street, Salem, VA 24153. If you return the instrument, Star City Music will refund by check, or credit your credit card, the purchase price of the instrument minus the cost of rent for the amount of time you used the instrument, beginning from the purchase date. There is a three month minimum if returned. The monthly rental fee used to calculate the return refund is stated on the agreement form. Your refund check or credit to your credit or debt card may take up to two weeks to process upon the satisfactory return of the instrument.

Purchasing Your Rental Instrument Through Monthly Payments:
End-of-School-Year or End-of-Semester “Alternate Option 1”

At the end of your rental period, you may be given the option to own (purchase) your rental instrument by making monthly payments. In selecting this option, you agree to the following:  I (we) will pay the monthly payment amount to Star City Music each and every month for the duration of the monthly payoff period until I (we) return the instrument or until all payments have been made as agreed. I (we) hereby authorize Star City Music to initiate adjustments, if necessary, for any late payments or transactions credited/debited in error. This authority will remain in effect until I (we) return the instrument or until all payments have been made as agreed.

Rental Agreement with Purchase Option:
Also, End-of-School-Year or End-of-Semester “Option 3” and “Alternate Option 3” (Re-Rent)

This agreement is a rental with a purchase option. At the end of the academic school year or semester (by the due date), you will decide whether to purchase or return your rental instrument, or re-rent it for the next rental period (Option 3) or a different rental period (Alternate Option 3). You will be offered a 20% discount off the balance to purchase your rental instrument (the retail price less your One School Year or One Semester rental credit). No interest will accrue during the period of this agreement, and the full amount of the single school year or single semester credit will be applied towards the retail price. You are responsible for your year-end payment by the due date even if you should not receive a bill. Star City Music retains legal title of the instrument until you have made all payments under this agreement; at that time you will own the instrument. If permitted, any applicable manufacturer’s warranty will be transferred to you at the time you acquire ownership. The total payment does not include any late fees, repair/replacement or fees charged to you due to default. Should you declare bankruptcy, Star City Music retains title; THIS IS A RENTAL and the instrument should be returned immediately. Virginia state and local taxes may be added to all prices shown in this agreement. This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Star City Music may obtain your personal credit report, at its option.

Return:
Also, End-of-School-Year or End-of-Semester “Option 4”

To return your instrument, you must first contact Star City Music and receive a Return Authorization Number. If you are making an End-of-School-Year or End-of-Semester rental decision, you should receive a Return Authorization Number by email after making your decision online. After receiving a Return Authorization Number, you have seven (7) days to return the instrument to the store in person or by package currier (such as UPS) with a signature required as proof of delivery.

Repair & Replacement Coverage:

If during the first year the instrument is lost due to burglary, theft, or fire, a Police Report is required within fifteen (15) days as “proof of loss.” The instrument will be replaced with a similar kind and quality (not necessarily a new instrument). Upon damage to the instrument, except by your willful act or gross neglect, Star City Music, shall repair the instrument at no cost to you, waiving the usual repair-shop minimum charge (a $60 value). Repair coverage includes damage to the instrument, but does not cover the finishes, strings, reeds, drumsticks, drumheads, bow hair, rosin, bridges, mouthpieces, neck straps, ligatures, or caps. This service covers problems that hinder the proper working order of the instrument, and does not include any type of cosmetic repair, i.e. small dents, lacquer wear, scratches, etc. ALL REPAIRS must be approved and/or performed by Star City Music or a technician approved by Star City Music. Repair Coverage varies. Please see your paperwork for details. You will be presented with the option to continue the Repair Coverage if you choose. Periods of coverage must be contiguous. If you do not elect to continue the coverage prior to the due date, the coverage cannot be reinstated later. To return the instrument for repair contact us at 540.772.7722.

Exchange:

During the first school year, you may exchange your instrument for another instrument. If the previous instrument was new, the instrument for which you exchange will be of like-kind and quality (not necessarily new). The purchase or rental price will be credited toward the balance of the next instrument. If the price of the instrument for which you are exchanging is less, Star City Music will issue a refund for the difference. Likewise if the price of the instrument for which you are exchanging is greater, you will owe Star City Music the difference. Any balance will be due at the time of the exchange. String instruments may be traded in for a larger size as the child grows, subject to the same stipulations and conditions sited here. You will receive 100% of the monies paid (less any taxes or late fees) credited towards the larger instrument according to the terms of the original Agreement. Should an exchange be made without a new Agreement, the terms of the previous Agreement will follow with instrument and exchange.

Re-Rent, Return & Refund:

After the initial rental period ends, the due date, any payment received less than the purchase balance or equal to or more than the standard published rental fee will be applied to your account as a rental payment. You are simply re-renting the instrument for another school year. Note that this is like stating over; no monies from any previous year(s) rent will be applied towards the balance of the payoff. Only the current year’s rental will apply towards purchase. You understand that by making a renewal payment, you agree to all terms expressed in this rental agreement and understand that the rental agreement starts new at the time of payment. If your account is delinquent your credit card/debit card on file may be used at our discretion to bring your account to a current status to avoid late fees and possible legal action. Delinquent renewals have the same terms and conditions found in the standard renewal process. You have the option to return the instrument anytime before the end of the agreement (due date) with no further obligation as long as all parts and related accessories that were issued with the instrument are returned with the instrument and it is in proper working order with no excessive wear or damage due to neglect, abuse, or lack of proper care. Any repair charges due or replacement of any parts are your sole responsibility. Case disfigurement: any case that is returned marked with ink, paint or any other markings that punitively mars the case are your sole responsibility. The replacement cost of a new case of the same brand and style will be charged to you upon its return. Upon the proper return of this instrument, you may be entitled to a refund if you return the instrument within the first 7 months of this agreement. There is a three month minimum charge. All refunds will first be approved by management and may take up to four weeks to be completed. Once the instrument has been returned, your School Year Rental Payment is no longer available as credit in any Purchase Option and the credit cannot be reinstated. A reinstatement period is allowed only in states where such a period is mandatory, however we cannot guarantee your original instrument will be returned to you if you decide to reinstate. Should a security deposit have been taken, it will be refunded to you by check within two (2) weeks of satisfactory return of the instrument providing the account is current. Clearly mark your Return Authorization Number on the package and on paper affixed to the instrument case, and ship to: Returns, Star City Music, 2030 East Main Street, Salem, VA 24153.

Star City Music may assign the agreement to a third party at any time, provided that any such assignment shall in no way affect the purchaser’s rights, options, or liabilities.

Cancellation:

You may cancel the agreement without penalty or obligations within three (3) days from the date you take delivery of the instrument. If you cancel, any payments you have made less any delivery and cleaning charges will be returned to you, providing the instrument has been returned to the location where it was rented or purchased in same condition as when received, to include any packing materials, warranty card, manual, papers and original box.

Facsimile & Electronic Transmission:

If the agreement is executed by you and thereafter sent to Star City Music by facsimile or electronic transmission, such transmission shall constitute the agreement and will be admissible for all purposes as the original agreement until such time as Star City Music has received the agreement with your manual signature thereon.
